1605305 : Is Ingersoll British?

This is an advert from Picture Post Magazine, August 1945. In the war years and post war years there was a suspicion in Britain of companies with foreign sounding names. At the time of the advert, the copy was entirely right, whilst Ingersoll had originally been an American company, the British business was subject to a management buy-out in 1930. So although Ingersoll was a British company in 1945, it didn't start as one - nor is it one any more. The Ingersoll name is now owned by Zeon Watches which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese-owned, Herald Group. They make everything from plastic toys to thermostats, frying pans to ..... Ingersoll watches.
